Leadpages vs. ClickFunnels

Wondering how Leadpages stacks up against ClickFunnels? Both are popular choices for entrepreneurs looking to build landing pages and marketing funnels. But which one is right for your business?

We want the same thing you do—success for your online business, so you can fulfill your dream of being a self-sustained, thriving entrepreneur. This means helping you pick the tool that allows you to sell more, even if it’s not ours.

Keep reading to see how these two lead generation platforms perform across eight different categories.

Note: comparisons in this article were last updated in January 2024.

Ease of use

Leadpages’ primary mission is to make it easy for entrepreneurs to build landing pages and generate leads, even if they’re complete beginners. So the tools are engineered in a way that someone with little-to-no design experience can create and publish a page in a day or less.

The Landing Page Builder uses a code-free drag-and-drop interface, making it the ideal choice for non-designers looking for a quick and easy way to launch new pages. You simply choose a professionally designed template that’s already optimized for conversions and then customize it to suit your brand. Editing text, swapping in new images, and adding sections can all be done with a few clicks of the mouse.

Landing Page Builder@2x

As you build your landing pages, Leadpages’ built-in Leadmeter tells you how likely your page is to convert traffic into leads, while also providing tips to help you optimize your conversion rate. This is perfect if you don’t have much experience with conversion marketing and want to make sure your page is properly optimized.

ClickFunnels also utilizes drag-and-drop editing based on rows and columns, along with pre-designed funnel templates. However, with the update to ClickFunnels 2.0, many users have found the building process has become more complicated.

While the new builder offers more customization options, these additional features make the platform less intuitive and more overwhelming. While 2.0 has been released for a little while now, some users still report the platform breaking and glitching from time to time. These are a couple factors you might want to keep in mind when choosing your platform, especially if you’re a beginner.

While both Leadpages and ClickFunnels utilize drag-and-drop builders, beginners will likely find Leadpages easier to use. The large number of customization options with ClickFunnels is nice, but they also make the learning curve a lot steeper. For more experienced designers who want more flexibility, you’ll be happy to know that you can edit templates with CSS or HTML on either platform.

Another important difference that gives Leadpages an edge is the Leadmeter. Because it predicts the performance of your page and provides customized tips to maximize conversions, it goes a long way in eliminating the guesswork, especially for those who are building their first landing page.

Leadpages offers over 250 landing page and website templates, and the library continues to grow every year. All templates are created based on design best practices and are optimized for conversions to set you up for success even before you start building your page.

Templates By Conversion Rate@2x

Templates can be sorted by newest, most popular, page type, industry, and colors. Best of all, you can sort templates by conversion rate to quickly find the design that will perform best based on historical data of real-world use.

All content is mobile responsive and will display optimally on desktops, tablets, and phones. A multi-device preview is automatically generated, so no additional steps are necessary to ensure that your site or page works on different screen sizes. There are also device-specific display settings, allowing you to show or hide certain sections on different devices.

Mobile Responsive@2x

In addition to page templates, Leadpages includes section templates that can be added to any existing page. This greatly reduces the time it takes to add more content, while keeping a consistent look with the rest of the page.

When creating a full marketing funnel, Leadpages allows page duplication and easy page-to-page connection inside the form and link settings. This lets you create simple and complex funnels (including upsell and downsell offers).

ClickFunnels features hundreds of templates sorted by single-page or whole funnels. From there, they break the templates into categories like sales, opt-in, membership, product launch, and more.

The big difference is that, instead of sorting by template or page type, ClickFunnels approaches these as funnel types which include product launch, video sales letter, squeeze page, two-step tripwire, webinar, and auto-webinar. This allows users to create the starting point for a multi-page funnel slightly faster.

While ClickFunnels offers a variety of templates, many of their designs feel outdated. The platform is known for its “internet marketing” look, and while this style of page can still work, many designers have moved away from this in favor of a more clean and modern aesthetic.

Both Leadpages and ClickFunnels have a large variety of templates (or funnels) to choose from. All templates within these platforms are automatically optimized for mobile, tablet, and desktop versions of your page.

Where you’ll start to notice a difference is the overall quality of the templates themselves. While both platforms allow you to completely customize templates to your liking, if you want to start with a more up-to-date and sleeker design then Leadpages is probably the better option.

Conversion tools

Leadpages offers a conversion toolkit that makes it easy to turn web traffic into leads and sales. These tools include:

  • Leadmeter: Predicts how well your page will perform and provides you with conversion optimization tips as you build.
Conversion Tips Leadmeter@2x
  • Alert bars: Promote lead magnets, webinars, special events, and more with top-of-page text bars.
  • Pop-up forms: Capture the attention of visitors on any page and prompt them to opt in to your email list or offer.
  • Checkout forms: Leadpages integrates with Stripe to allow you to sell products and services directly from your landing page.
  • Order bumps: Include an add-on to any product or service payment form.
  • Upsells: Leadpages offers upsell capabilities and a range of templates designed to persuade a customer to buy something additional or more expensive.
  • A/B testing: Create two different versions of your landing page and see which one converts best.
  • Analytics: Track your traffic, conversions, and leads to see which pages are performing and which ones need to be tweaked.
  • Lead magnet delivery: Deliver lead magnets to your audience without the need for an email marketing platform.
A B Testing@2x

ClickFunnels is designed to help you create funnels that result in leads and sales. So as you’d expect, they offer a fair number of conversion tools. They provide many of the same features Leadpages does, including:

  • Pop-ups
  • A/B testing
  • Analytics
  • Order bumps
  • One-click upsells
  • Lead magnet delivery
  • E-commerce capabilities

While ClickFunnels doesn’t offer alert bars or an equivalent to the Leadmeter, they do support many different payment processors including Stripe, PayPal, and credit card.

In many ways, Leadpages and ClickFunnels are fairly similar when it comes to conversion tools.

Both allow you to create a conversion funnel that includes landing pages and pop-ups. You can also split-test your pages to find the best design and copy for your audience. And both support lead magnet delivery and online payments.

For most small business owners, Leadpages has a slight edge in advanced conversion tools such as alert bars and the Leadmeter. However, ClickFunnels’ wide range of e-commerce options provides increased flexibility for those with more complicated businesses.

Leadpages isn’t just a landing page builder and lead generation platform—you’ll also gain access to a wide array of services from their team of experienced experts.

First off, all plans include free feedback on one of your landing pages. This includes a video of a lead generation expert going over your page and pointing out areas that can be improved and optimized.

If you’re looking for help creating your landing pages and other marketing assets you can purchase service hours from experts as well at a modest price. Tasks you can have them complete include:

  • Setting up your integrations
  • Creating lead gen forms
  • Creating an ad campaign
  • Writing an email nurture sequence
  • Building a landing page
  • Creating a complete marketing funnel

You can also book an expert for a 30-minute 1:1 coaching to discuss your business and strategy. Pro annual users receive one of these calls for free.

ClickFunnels is very much a DIY platform. While they provide you with tools and resources to help you on your journey, you won’t get a lot of hands-on help from their team. They do offer their One Funnel Away Challenge, which provides you with a host of pre-recorded lessons, some swipe copy, and a facilitator/coach who oversees your progress, but you won’t get the 1:1 attention you do with Leadpages.

This is an easy win for Leadpages. Their vast array of more personalized services and expert help means that you’re never alone when you’re building your business on the platform. You can choose to build everything yourself, or you can leverage expert experience based on over ten years of conversion data to help you maximize your results.

While ClickFunnels gives you the tools you need to succeed, you’re essentially on your own and have to fend for yourself.

Publishing options

Leadpages offers a number of flexible publishing options. Every account comes with free hosting on a custom leadpages subdomain (such as: https://your-domain.lpages.co). You can also publish on a domain that you already own (seamlessly connected to Leadpages), purchase a new domain within Leadpages, or receive a free domain for one year with the purchase of a Leadpages annual subscription.

Already own a custom domain? Connecting it to your Leadpages account is super easy. Just navigate to the “Domains” section of your account and type in your domain. You’ll then be prompted to log in to your domain provider. That’s it. Once you log in, your domain will be automatically connected to your account. No need to dig through a dashboard to find CNAME and A records—it’s all done for you.

Every Leadpages account includes a plugin you can use to install your landing pages, pop-ups, and alert bars on your WordPress sites. You can even publish your page as a dynamic HTML page (which automatically updates when edits are published in Leadpages) within your website’s file manager.

Leadpages also makes it easy to share a landing page or website template with your team or clients at no additional cost.

With ClickFunnels, you can host your page directly through the platform, add your own domain, use a WordPress plugin, or register a new domain using your ClickFunnels account.

Unfortunately, connecting a custom domain to your ClickFunnels account isn’t nearly as easy as Leadpages. The process differs depending on which domain registrar you use. While they provide step-by-step instructions for the most popular domain providers, if you bought your domain from somewhere else you’ll be given a more general set of instructions that may or may not work right away.

Leadpages and ClickFunnels offer all the same publishing options, so no matter which platform you choose you’ll have plenty of choices when it comes to how you want to publish your pages.

The real differentiator is connecting custom domains to your account. Leadpages’ simple three-step process means you can connect a domain in under a minute. On the other hand, if you’re trying to connect a domain with ClickFunnels you’ll need to log in to your registrar, find your DNS records, and add CNAME and/or A records. And if you didn’t purchase your domain from one of the providers ClickFunnels has instructions for you’ll have to figure the process out for yourself.

AI Tools

With the rise of AI, entrepreneurs now have access to a wide range of tools that simplify and expedite content creation. The Leadpages AI Engine includes a few of these tools inside the Page Builders so you don’t have to use a third-party app to gain access to this tech.

All Standard users have access to Headline Swap, which allows you to quickly generate new headlines with a click of your mouse. Simply type a headline (or select an existing headline), then open up the Headline Swap tool to have the AI Engine generate different variations until you find one you like.

Pro and Advanced users can also use Writing Assistant and Image Generator. Use AI to write (or re-write) sections of your copy or your entire landing page. Then create custom AI images for your page—simply enter a prompt and tell Image Generator what you’re looking for and you’ll receive three different downloadable options in seconds based on your request.

While ClickFunnels Beta-tested their Marketing.AI tool in 2023, at the time of this writing the company has yet to release any AI tools to their entire user base.

Until ClickFunnels has a wide release for their AI tools, Leadpages holds a clear advantage in this category. If you’re interested in using AI technology to speed up your landing page builds then Leadpages is definitely the better option.

Leadpages integrates with over 90 different tools and platforms—including all major email service providers (ESPs), customer relationship management tools (CRMs), webinar platforms, social networks, and checkouts via Stripe. That’s in addition to the more than 2000 integrations available through Zapier. You can also customize your integrations with CSS.

As an added bonus, Leadpages stores data from your native integrations and Zapier and resends it if the app is down. This helps ensure you stay up and running, even if one of your tools is having technical issues.

ClickFunnels has a similar library of integrations that includes popular ESPs, CRMs, webinar platforms, social networks, and payment tools.

Like Leadpages, you have access to many more integrations through Zapier.

Both Leadpages and ClickFunnels offer integrations with the most popular digital marketing tools. Leadpages has a few more native integrations, but both allow you to use Zapier to connect to virtually any app or tool. ClickFunnels has the edge in direct integrations with more payment processors beyond Stripe.

Leadpages has different pricing tiers to suit every budget. A Standard plan comes in at $49 per month and Pro accounts are $99 per month. You’ll get a 25% discount (3 months free) when choosing an annual subscription.

All Leadpages plans include:

  • Unlimited traffic and leads
  • Email and live chat support
  • Free expert feedback for any landing page
  • Access to AI Headline Swap
  • 1 custom domain plus Leadpages hosting
  • Google Adsense
  • Traffic and Conversion Analytics

In addition, all Leadpages users have access to expert services. For a reasonable fee, users can hire a Leadpages expert to build their landing page or other marketing assets. Experts are also available for 1:1 coaching calls.

By upgrading to Pro, users gain access to a few more features, including:

  • AI Writing Assistant and Image Generator
  • A/B testing
  • 3 total custom domains
  • Ecommerce with Stripe
  • Phone support

On the flip side, ClickFunnels’ Basic pricing is $147 per month and their Pro plan is $197 per month. Switching to an annual plan saves customers 14% and 20% respectively.

With ClickFunnels’ most basic plan you’ll get:

  • 10,000 leads
  • 3 users
  • 20 funnels
  • Email and live chat support
  • 1 custom domain
  • Unlimited email sequences
  • Membership sites
  • E-commerce
  • Analytics

No services or 1:1 training are available, but there is some group coaching included in their One Funnel Away Challenge. Additional group training programs are frequently offered to customers for an additional fee.

By upgrading your plan to the Pro level you’ll raise your account limits to:

  • 25,000 leads
  • 100 funnels
  • 5 users
  • 3 custom domains

Right away you’ll notice a big difference in price. You’ll pay an extra $90 per month to get started with ClickFunnels compared to Leadpages. Are you getting what your business actually needs for all that extra money?

Well, ClickFunnels allows you to add multiple users to your account which is good for larger teams. The platform also includes an email marketing platform, so you can create your landing pages and email sequences all in one place. One more option ClickFunnels has that Leadpages doesn’t is the ability to create membership sites.

Perhaps the biggest advantage Leadpages offers is unlimited leads. With no limits on leads across all plans, you’re never forced to start paying more as your audience grows. Leadpages also recently partnered with Google Adsense to allow users to display ads on their website and landing pages for an additional revenue stream. Currently, there is no direct way to use Adsense on a ClickFunnels page.

Leadpages offers a few key features that Clickfunnels doesn’t, including:

  • Free expert landing page feedback
  • AI copywriting and image generation
  • Leadmeter
  • Alert bars
  • Expert services
  • Phone support

Given all this, it’s hard to justify the massive price difference.

“First off, It's affordable! Unlike Unbounce and Clickfunnels, it has all the same features at half the cost. The customer support is top-notch and very helpful. If you sign up for their newsletter, you will get a ton of valuable information that has helped my business grow. I recommend this brand to many of my agency owner friends. You also don't need to know how to code either. The drag-and-drop system is so easy to learn and use.”
