We’ve found in our business and in the businesses of a lot of our customers, better page speed equals better search engine ranking. Being in business online, one of the most important things regarding your website is your page rank and search engines or in other words when someone searches for something related to your business, where does your website turnout? Will your rank greatly affects the amount of organic traffic that makes its way to your website and there’s a lot of widely publicized methods for ranking higher in search engines to get more traffic. If you go Google SEO, you’ll find pages and pages of different results telling you want to do.
There’s a lot of theories about what Google uses to rank websites and search engines but they’re just that, theories. The one thing we absolutely do know because Google flat out told us is they definitely use page speed to rank pages. So one of the most reliable, repeatable, consistent and proven ways to increase your ranking is by making your page speed as fast as possible. All things being equal, a page that loads faster will always the page that loads slower. In fact, we’ve seen multiple instances of pages ranking higher in search engines by doing nothing else other than increasing their page speed.
The startling fact is every one second delay in page response can result in a 7% reduction in conversions. According to kiss metrics, 40% of people will abandon a website that takes more than three seconds to load. So this may not sound like that big of a deal but let’s put this in perspective. Let’s say you’re an ecommerce site that’s making $100,000 per day, let’s then take the statistics I just mentioned and say that the page load speed drops from five seconds to seven seconds, which isn’t a lot but remember every second equals a 7% drop in conversions. So with our ecommerce site this page load speed would mean that we’re losing out on over $5.1M a year. So this illustrates how important your traffic and conversions are to your business. Both of them directly relate to the speed of your pages. The faster your page is, the more likelihood that you’ll rank higher in search engines then when traffic comes to your page it’s likely to convert better the faster your pages are.
So if you were going to optimize your page speed, you’d need to do two things. Number one, get the fastest servers you can and number two work with a coder to make sure your pages are bloated air laden pieces of code that don’t work as effectively as they could. Updating your hosting to as fast of a service as possible is massively expensive especially if you’re a startup. So this isn’t always an economical choice. Then if you were to hire a coder to custom code all your pages from our experience you’d be looking at over $300 per page you wanted to publish which isn’t really economical for any business regardless of size. So at this point, you might be wondering what the heck do I do then?
I just want to show you what Leadpages super user Juan Martitegui said about his pages created and hosted on the Leadpages platform. Juan said this, your hosting is a lot faster hence conversion rates approve. On the server with the same page, I got an 8.47% improvement, almost 10%. So Juan got an almost 10% improvement by doing nothing other than hosting his pages on a Leadpages platform. Below I’ve linked to an iTunes podcast interview with Juan Martitegui where he talks about how he was able to get increased conversion rates over and over again by using Leadpages to increase a server hosting speed. So I highly recommend you click on the link below to listen to that interview. Something to note here is that Juan doesn’t mess around with cheap hosting. He pays over $1000 a month in hosting fees and this is what he said about the free hosting all Leadpages customers get with their accounts.
One of the reasons these pages are so fast is because every page you create with Leadpages is hosted and deployed on the Google server network which is arguably the fastest server network in the world. Our servers can scale to accommodate even the largest campaigns without skipping a beat. Also, all of our code for our pages is written and optimized by hand to ensure maximum speed and functionality. All of our pages are HTML5, CSS3 compliant. All of our pages pass an 80 point inspection, all of our pages are put through multiple W3c validators and speed tested through Google’s page speed tools to ensure there’s no dead weight on your pages. So this is all well and good right?
Well to actually go to WhichLoadsFaster.com and compare a page hosted on my own blog against the page hosted on my Leadpages account so you can see how powerful this is. As you can see it’s the exact same page only this page is hosted right on my blog and this page is hosted on the Leadpages servers. I’ll enter in my blog page URL here and then I’ll enter in my Leadpages URL here and I’ll click go. The results speak for themselves. My Leadpages page is definitely much faster than my blog page. This isn’t a rare occurrence either Leadpages continually beats the best performing pages and speed test conducted by our users which result in higher conversions and more sales for our customers. If you are a Leadpages customer, I encourage you to go to WhichLoadFaster.com and compare your pages and post them in the comments below this video.
